Introduction at 6:45 p.m. (German)
Virtuoso | Romantic | Scandinavian
For the second season-ticket concert of the season, you can expect a musical masterpiece which came about as part of a historical collaboration, with Robert Schumann composing his one and only piano concerto together with his wife Clara, a virtuoso pianist who premiered the piece herself.
The brilliant solo part will be played for us by the outstanding Huijing Han, the Chinese pianist who was appointed a Steinway Artist in 2018. The programme will also feature two works by Norwegian composers: Edward Grieg’s «Norwegian Melodies», which dazzle by their simplicity, and Johan Svendsen’s second symphony, which cleverly combines classical forms with folk melodies, allowing Norway’s rich musical heritage to flow into this work of art.
Young Lithuanian Izabelė Jankauskaitė, who studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and was assistant to Paavo Järvi with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich for the 2023 / 2024 season, conducts the orchestra with a light touch and accurate musicality. Plunge yourselves into a concert full of emotion, elegance and musical beauty – an experience not to be missed.
