Zurich-based Theater HORA is one of the best-known professional theatres by and for people with a cognitive impairment and was awarded the Swiss Grand Prix Theater in 2016. In 2024 and in conjunction with the Konzert Theater St. Gallen, Hora produced Georg Büchner’s comedy Leonce and Lena, under the title «HORA total!»

The play is about two people who, as soon as they have met, yearn for one another. Leonce and Lena is a comedy in which Prince Leonce from the fictional Kingdom of Popo flees from an arranged marriage with Princess Lena, whom he has never met. On his travels, he meets Lena, without realising who she is, and falls in love with her, just as she also finds herself in an unwanted marriage contract. The two end up finding out the others’ true identities, and via a cascade of funny and absurd events, they can finally be together while escaping their royal duties.

This the first time that the members of the Theater Hora are working on every aspect of the production with external artists and people from outside the Hora Konzert Theater St. Gallen teams. Together they discover to what extent you can participate, what you have to take into account and what boundaries you might come up against. And Leonce and Lena is the ideal play for this.
