Encore: Talk after the performance with Daniel Huppert and Andreas Martin Hofmeir
Childhood | Tuba | Countryside
To kick off the season, the Zuger Sinfonietta and their conductor Daniel Huppert are taking us on a trip to Great Britain, with two of England’s foremost composers – Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams – on the programme. In his short orchestral piece «Dream Children», Elgar tells a captivating tale about childhood – and one which also speaks with real relevance to adults, on stages and in concert halls.
Andreas Martin Hofmeir meanwhile will be performing a very special solo – on the tuba! Hofmeir is an exceptional musician and pioneer of his instrument. He is primarily known as a member of the LaBrassBanda group and professor for tuba at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. With the orchestra, he will perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’ tuba concerto from 1954 – the first instrumental concerto which features the tuba as a solo instrument. Hofmeier will give the lie to cliches and show how the tuba can dazzle with dynamism, lyricism and tenderness.
The performance will conclude with Symphony No. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy – a landscape set to music. Mendelssohn was inspired by the ruggedness of the nature as well as the mystique and the stories he experienced when travelling around Scotland.
