Tradition | Departure | Innovation

If it is true that folk music is primarily passed on to the next generation via a family environment, then this concert is living proof – two sons playing with their fathers and all four of them among the foremost Schwyzerörgeli exponents in the country. The show will actually have three generations on stage together. Werner Aeschbacher is the oldest at 81 and embodies tradition. Thomas Aeschbacher (60) and Markus Flückiger (57) are pioneers of the renewal of folk music, while Dominik Flückiger (30), who only recently ‘came out of his father’s shadow’, demonstrates how fresh, innovative and future-orientated this music is becoming, while still respecting tradition.

Thomas Aeschbacher, recipient of the «Goldener Violinschlüssel»,  and Markus Flückiger, Swiss Music Prize award-winner, are among the leading figures of Swiss folk music of recent decades. While each has their own style, their quality is equally high. And now they will be on the same stage for the first time: four Swiss diatonic accordions, first in the more familiar duo set-up (2x2), then all four combined. Accompanying them is Pirmin Huber (41), one of the most sought-after double bass-players on the scene and who, like Dominik Flückiger, is helping to shape current tendencies. The audience will be treated to a concert like no other, blending tradition with innovation!
