Hit-list | Folk music | Accordion magic
This concert has been made to measure for the outstanding Zug accordionist Patricia Draeger. Some musicians shy away from the spotlight yet still play a prominent role in the background, and Draeger is certainly one of those. For years, she has been an essential pillar of countless groups in current folk music and far beyond. Her virtuoso arrangements and compositions make her a unique as well as a much-vaunted musician. As such, she has played a significant role in the success of the renewal movement of recent decades that has also become the core of the «Heimatklänge» («Sounds of Home») series at the Theater Casino Zug.
Draeger has been given carte blanche for this concert and has invited two groups with whom she has long had a close connection. Albin Brun and Corin Curschellas are two of the absolute pioneers of a new interpretation of contemporary folk music. Add them to the bill alongside Draeger and this concert is a summit meeting of the current scene. In independent, delicately balanced compositions, the Albin Brun Quartet combines new folk music with jazz and improvisation, creating poetic and yet rhythmically powerful soundscapes. Corin Curschellas’ «Rodas» ensemble, with Curschellas (vocals), Draeger (accordion) and Barbara Gisler (cello) spins a veritable hit-list of colourful Romansh, Italian and Walser songs.
