Power | Intrigue | Fate
Two women lay claim to the crown, which leads to a deadly battle for power. And while Elizabeth I sits on the throne, Mary Stuart languishes in prison. Their fates are inextricably linked, and when they meet, Mary’s plea for mercy ends in a rage-filled attack, with fatal consequences.
The characters in «Maria Stuart» are helplessly overburdened, fighting amongst themselves, forcing their opinions on others and eventually ruining their own lives. Mary and Elizabeth are victims of a ‘crisis of similarity’. Mary yearns for contact, Elizabeth clings onto her uniqueness. The battle between rapprochement and boundaries leads to fatal tensions. A play in German.
