Traditional | Innovative | Exhilarating
Four young women, four string instruments and a few Schwyzerörgeli diatonic accordions… put them all together and you have Eiger Mönch & UrSchwyz. This unusual folk music ensemble combines traditional idioms with contemporary elements to develop a captivating sound that is earthy, experimental and groove-laden all at the same time. Their first studio album, entitled «Nordwind», features works of their own, North European music and a few old dances from the Muotathal valley. All four musicians studied at renowned schools in Berne, Zurich and Lucerne. And at the request of the quartet, we have invited the famous Appenzell string group Alder Buebe to the concert, for a creative exchange between two totally opposing Swiss folk music traditions.
Alder Buebe are the fruit of the Alder family musical dynasty from Urnäsch that is over 130 years old. Like all folk musicians from the past, they are constantly renewing and expanding Appenzell’s unique string music tradition. Alder Buebe are a living embodiment of how folk music can evolve whilst remaining part of a long-standing family tradition.

Every concert in the “Heimatklänge” series is a unique experience. The ambitious program is now entering its third season. Once again, the focus is on the highlights of new Swiss folk music, which always guarantee surprising musical experiences. Highly talented musicians with the necessary vision have thoroughly dusted off the sounds of home, creating entirely new musical horizons. Two groups will perform at each of the four concerts.
One traditional and one that creates something new from the traditional. They meet with great enthusiasm and respect for each other. They are all driven by the same basic idea that their own roots are still the most beautiful foundation. The concerts in this series are a real treat, not only for fans of new Swiss folk music. Down-to-earth music has just as much place as sophisticated light music.
