The first concert in the 2026/27 «Heimatklänge» (Sounds of Home) folk music series will feature a special event, with musicians of various stripes coming together. There will be the sounds of the achingly Swiss Schwyzerörgeli diatonic accordion, a tight horn section, underscored by an effervescent dulcimer in the background, groove-laden basslines, jazzy percussion and delicate yodelling.
What may sound like a musical car-crash will instead see the Big Band Zug launch a new concert project blending their classic big-band sound with current Swiss folk music. Together with ultra-innovative Schwyzerörgeli-player Adrian Würsch, the band has devised a new programme comprising their own compositions, arranged specifically for the Big Band Zug. The project is a unique experiment, combining the sound of the big band with the dulcimer, yodelling and the folk-music groove of the diatonic accordion, all expertly played.
The result is a creative tonal expansion of two genres with completely different musical backgrounds. The homely elements come from Adrian Würsch, Elias Menzi on the dulcimer and singer / yodeller Elian Zeitel.
