Belgian circus-dance company Circumstances is heading to the Theater Casino Zug as part of the Migros Culture Percentage’s Steps biennial dance festival. Belgian choreographer Piet Van Dyke’s circus is replete with associative spaces. «The circus is not about trying to achieve something, it is about challenging the impossible. Pushing the limits of balance, gravity, time and stamina creates a unique form of dance.»

«Beyond» is a vibrant, energy-laden and yet poetic circus and dance performance. It features six professional performers, each of them experts in different disciplines, including ladder-walking, acrobatics, bicycle acrobatics, partner acrobatics and pole dancing. Put them on stage, and they become unstoppable bridge-builders.

Using ladders of different sizes and heights, the artists build incredible constructions such as curved sculptures and revolving cranes. They balance the ladders, creating a tense, unstable field of play. They explore unknown zones, climb, swing and engage in daring choreography. They push the boundaries and discover how far they can push one another. «Beyond» poses questions about fragility, absurdity and how strong boundaries really are, while showing how far we can come when we work together. It is a dance we are all involved in, on the shared ladders of the power of the human imagination.
