Mountain dragons | Myths | Folk music
This poetic evening of musical theatre by Central Swiss artist collective «Fetter Vetter & Oma Hommage» feat. «hedi drescht», is a melange of words and sounds, tradition and creation, past and future. A small team of researchers happens upon a strange room in a desert which eliminates light, sound and smell. What is unknown is whether this echo room is from a long-lost time in the past or from the future. The team tells of an egg from which the world hatched – a symbol found in many creation stories – of mountain dragons and treasures of gold, of lightning and kingdoms, of rain and drought, of love and war. Between forgetting and remembering, truth and fiction, a multilayered tale unfolds, recounting what remains.
The work is written by Zug author Martina Clavadetscher and brought to the stage by Lucerne director Damian Dlaboha, with Bela Rothenbühler, winner of the 2025 Swiss Literature Prize, penning the lyrics to the songs. The fantastical scenario moves between two planes of reality: folk music duo «hedi drescht», featuring yodeller Simone Felber and musician Lukas Gernet, alongside Zug band «duodendron» with Linus Amstad and Jonas Inglin, create the sounds, smells and stories of the echo chamber, while a prominent troupe of actors looks to fathom out the whys and wherefores.
«Mythos» questions the meaning of tradition and the duty of oral tradition. Which voices form our collective subconscious, and how can myths influence how we act today?
