Friendship | Heartache | Magic
An operatic experience for the whole family! Mozart’s penultimate and undoubtedly most curious opera was first performed in Vienna in 1791 and continues to delight young and old with its unforgettable melodies.
At the behest of the Queen of the Night, Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno set out to free the queen’s daughter Pamina from the clutches of Sarastro. But is the latter really the villain of this particular piece? And will the two polar opposite companions manage to fulfil the tasks that are asked of them? Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s «Die Zauberflöte» seamlessly combines fairy-tale and Freemason themes and questions the meaning of friendship, truth, reason and the magical power of music. And of course, it transpires that love can indeed conquer all.
Swiss conductor and violinist Meret Lüthi is in charge of the musical side of the opera, while young director Anna Drescher is handling the performance aspect.
