Music is more than just atmospheric melodies and harmonious sounds, it is a mirror to the soul. Composers from all eras have infused their works with their personal experiences and existential questions. With young conductor Felix Mildenberger at the helm, the Zuger Sinfonietta invites you to discover this world of emotions in the second of the season-ticket concerts.
The performance starts in 19th-century Paris, where Louise Farrenc was consciously railing against mainstream opera and confidently dedicated herself to «musique sérieuse» – a bold move at the time. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also revealed a different side to his work – while his operas tended to be light and humorous, his piano concerto in D Minor showed unexpected depth. British soloist Martin James Bartlett is an expressive, virtuoso pianist whose style brings this complexity to life.
The evening concludes with Franz Schubert’s symphony in B Minor, often referred to as «Unfinished». Composed shortly before his death, it resonates with the pain of something unfulfilled.
