Whatever rings true disappears that very moment. «INSGEHEIM» is a poetic performance by Zug clarinettist Reto Bieri and the CAMERATA BERN, in which music is not a statement but a threshold between sound and noise, memory and present, appearance and disappearance. Inspired by Robert Walser’s subtle imprecision, the night steers the listener away from the definable and towards the creative process itself.
The musical basis comes from a wide-ranging repertoire that transforms rather than merely acknowledging the composers: Bruckner’s vast adagios, Shostakovich’s encrypted DSCH motifs, Pärt’s pared down soundscapes, Kancheli’s fragile mementos, Scelsi’s vocal compactions, Hartmann’s expressive conflicts... Added to these is a sound archive developed by Bieri himself featuring barely perceptible phenomena – breaths, steps, faraway words – that are drawn out of his clarinet like wandering voices. The CAMERATA BERN oscillates between collective and solos, while Janiv Oron’s electronics weave invisible architecture in the background. Visual projections by Tabea Rothfuchs and a foglamp concept by Markus Güdel guide the evening between zones of visibility and invisibility.
Four «fog-patches» structure the evening – from the tentative appearance of the first sound to the denouement in pure reverberation. Not a crescendo, but a breath.
