«Heidi», the classic 1952 film, is getting a very special new lease of life. Filmed in black and white and based on Johanna Spyri’s world-famous tale, it remains the most striking and poetic cinematic version of the little orphan from the east of Switzerland. She lives in the Alps with her embittered grandfather Alpöhi, played by storied Swiss actor Heinrich Gretler, and spends her time with Peter the goatherd. One day she is torn away from everything she holds dear and taken to Frankfurt, where she meets Klara who has a physical impairment.
In a world premiere, the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden will play the score live to accompany Robert Blum’s film as it appears on the screen, in a production freshly adapted by Swiss musician Raban Brunner to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of legendary Swiss author Johanna Spyri in 2027. Film and score will blend into one in a uniquely nostalgic concert experience for adults and children aged 6 and above, bringing one of the centrepieces of Swiss cinematic history to life.
