Coming of Age | Friendship | First love
«Hard Land» tells the story of Sam, who goes through a formative summer in a small US town in the 1980s. He works in a cinema, makes new friends and experiences his first love and feelings of freedom. At the same time, he is on the cusp of losing his seriously ill mother. Benedict Wells’ novel is a bestseller that has been translated into a number of languages, while Katja Langenbach’s stage version is a poetic tale of remembrance and growing up, centring on the particular summer that changes Sam’s life forever.
