In her new solo performance «Comeback», extraordinary Swiss dancer and versatile comedian Eugénie Rebetez oscillates between poetry and comedy, subtlety and rock ’n’ roll. She creates a fun, exuberant caricature while always coming back to her real self in the end.
«Comeback» is a play on ambivalence. The dancer wants everything but cannot deal with abundance. She remains true to her values before suddenly abandoning them. She yearns for the light-heartedness of her youth but takes on increasing levels of responsibility. It is a game where she is always advancing, trying things out, trying her luck; a musical score with stories in song and dance, inspired by her own life. «Comeback» is a brilliant one-woman show, sometimes delicate, sometime shrill, and dedicated with a sharp and humorous eye to the hope that can be found in every return.
Rebetez grew up in Jura, in the west of Switzerland, and studied dance at reputed institutions in Belgium and the Netherlands. For over a decade and a half, she has been using her own solo performances to develop a stage identity that combines dance, song and humour. She has also created shows for the Kunsthalle St. Gallen, the «Hauser & Wirth» gallery for Pipilotti Rist exhibitions, for the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Kunst Halle Krems. The Aargauer Zeitung described her work as «blowing up forbidden concepts and body image».
