After «Los Bailes Robados», Seville’s charismatic flamenco dancer and choreographer David Coria is returning to the Theater Casino Zug with his new production «Babel». His socio-politically engaged style has made him symbolic of the Flamenco avant garde and one of the most fascinating Spanish choreographers of modern times.
«Babel» is a veritable firework, with every movement and every note polished to the finest detail. The Tower of Babel is the basis of the evening’s production: an audacious building designed to reach to the very heavens, and which was punished with linguistic confusion and division – how current this seems, in today’s climate of global conflict…
Seven dancers from around the world, a singer and two musicians accompany Coria on the stage. What if the building of a symbolic tower today were to become an act of community? A reminder that we can all co-exist? The performance compacts and expands, acrobatic towers are built and then collapse, all of this running like wildfire throughout Coria’s choreography, while flamenco dance and music are transformed into a living Utopia.
Coria has won many domestic and international awards as a dancer and choreographer, and «Los Bailes Robados» won the 2024 Premio Talía from the Teatro Español de Madrid.
