The concerts of the Ländler Orchestra are regular highlights of the Zurich Festival for New Folk Music «Stubete am ». In 2022, musician Tobi Zwyer from Uri was commissioned to write a composition for a large ensemble he had put together. The result is «Heimatklänge» in the best sense of the word. Here, town and country are synonymous with different ways of life, with tradition and modernity. The resulting Ländler symphony pays homage to the idyllic mountain landscape as well as to the multicultural diversity and liveliness of today's cities. With this composition Tobi Zwyer has achieved a great success. The basic idea that a living tradition must be something dynamic is fully realised here. The concert is a multi-faceted expedition into very different sound worlds of folk music. Equipped with tuba, accordion and voice, the composer is at the same time the powerful-voiced front man of the ensemble, who lets his exuberant energy flow into the multi-layered work.

Growing up on the shores of Lake Lucerne, Tobi Zwyer, a tuba and accordion player, was drawn to music-obsessed Ireland after graduating from high school. At the same time as studying geology at the ETH, he completed a conducting degree in Lucerne. Today, as a professional musician, he conducts the Musikverein Harmonie Schlieren, the Brass Band Gurtnellen, the Brass Band Musikverein Ibach and the Zug Senior Citizens Orchestra. He can also be heard with Schäbyschigg, the Molotow Brass Orkestar and from time to time alone, as a duo or in a trio.

The Theater Casino Zug’s new «Heimatklänge» (regional sounds) series is a crazy amalgamation of folk music, Balkan brass, feminist agit prop yodelling, Alpine brass music and oriental sounds. Highly-talented musicians with a real sense of perspective have dusted off the sounds of their respective homelands and given them new musical horizons. They all share the belief that your own roots are always the best foundation to build on, making these concerts a real pleasure for one and all, and not merely reserved for fans of new Swiss folk music.
