«Strange! When I listen to this music, I hear very specific answers to all my questions. What kind of world is this that emits such strange sounds and figures as a reflection...» Gustav Mahler noted in a letter to his wife Alma in 1903.

Thom Luz and Ensemble devote themselves to these strange sounds and figures in their new music theatre creation and set up a musical Mahler hall full of polyphonic absences with sounding heating radiators, lost pianos, exhausted androids and invisible string instruments. Because: «Time no longer has a destination - it is no longer human voices, but lonely planets and suns that circle around me.»

An invitation to a musical change of perspective, conceived for four people and at least twice as many shadows and machines, in which Mahler can be mirrored just as anew as the connection between world weariness and change optimism.

The evening is divided into three parts:

  1. The world before the people
  2. The people
  3. The world after the people.

And as in real life, there is no break.

This opens up a space of associations about the life of the earth and its inhabitants, who have become increasingly alienated from it.
