With the help of world-class cellist Sol Gabetta, the Kammerorchester Basel is dedicating a concert to the Spanish art of love. Cupid and his bow and arrow feature heavily in Manuel de Falla’s “El amor brujo”, and while his aim may not prove to be so true, what matters is that the public is enthralled. Falla’s interpretation of the meaning of love almost gave him a broken heart, with the premiere for singer and Flamenco dancer in Madrid being cancelled. The symphonic suite that he turned it into in 1916 also failed to convince audiences. Only when Falla transformed the suite into a one-act ballet and took it first to the USA did it become a global success. Spanish composer Francisco Coll García has put together a never-before-seen programme for this evening, which promises to fill your hearts with passion, fire, yearning, happiness, tenderness and love!
