The charismatic Asya Fateyeva embodies all of the magic of her instrument in the way she plays. She takes the saxophone to new levels of popularity and gives it a well-earned place in the classic concert hall. Abo (subscription) concert No.3 sees Fateyeva do just that with the varied and multi-layered saxophone concerto by Alexander Glazunov. Prior to the magic of the saxophone comes the “Holberg” suite by Edvard Grieg, bringing with it a highly artistic compilation of movements from times past. To round things off, there is a sinfonietta in A minor from the rarely played yet extraordinarily talented Nikolai Myaskovsky, who was a contemporary of Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.
