Rabih Abou-Khalil is a cross-over artist between a number of different worlds. Like a wanderer between cultures, the Lebanon-born oud virtuoso and composer combines traditional Arab music with European classical and American jazz, creating a highly sophisticated blend that is light years away from any world music trends.

With a sharp and open mind, immense virtuosity as a musician and composer and a serious dose of humour besides, he has an extraordinary flair for combining often divergent worlds. The result is refreshingly different, fascinatingly complex and a delight for the senses.

Rabih Abou-Khalil studied Arab and western music in Beirut. After he fled the Lebanese civil war in 1978, he studied the flute in Munich. He now lives in France and has become a staple of the European jazz scene with his brand of “oriental jazz”. He has received a number of accolades for his work, including the Jazz Award five times in 1999. After a long hiatus, he has released a new recording entitled “The Flood and the Fate of the Fish”, which he will be showcasing in Zug.
