Film: The film «Bamako» by Abderrahmane Sissako deals with the role played by European colonialisation in the formation of African societies and the resulting issues and poverty.

Music: Kader Tarhanine is a burgeoning star of the Tuareg music scene who draws inspiration from the rich repertoire of the Sahel-Sahara region. His music combines traditional rhythms with rock and poetic Sahel and Arabic texts.

Culturescapes is a multi-disciplinary cultural festival held every two years in autumn and which is designed to promote intercultural dialogue. This year’s event focusses extensively on the Sahara and deals with the subjects of borders, resilience and the future(s). It will visit over 30 institutions for two months, inviting audiences to take a deeper look into the arts and lives of those from the Sahara region via dance, music, film and discussions.
